Dear Readers,
As summer approaches and the sun is an increasingly frequent visitor, there’s plenty to report from the world of Periscope.
First of all, I’d like to welcome Toby Lichtig, the latest addition to Team Periscope. Toby joins us from The Times Literary Supplement and as Contributing Editor he will be working on the In the News section under our trusty editor in chief, L.R. McRobbie.
At about the same time that Toby joined us, we moved offices and have now settled into our shiny news digs on Notting Hill Gate, where we share office space with our illustrious co-tenants Intelligence Squared and Globalista Travel. As you can see, we’re clearly going up in the world.
The main update on the content front is that we’ve settled into a regular routine of unique Periscope offerings. Every day, in the horizontal highlights bar below the carousel, we present our Leaders UK, Leaders US, Financial Pages, and Opinion-Makers features. The Leaders features offer a review of the leading editorials appearing each day in the main broadsheets on either side of the Atlantic. The Financial Pages feature presents a round up of the leading editorials in The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal. And our newest addition to the roster, Opinion-Makers, provides a selection and summary of the best opinion columns from leading news sources.
In addition to our daily features, we’ve thrown in something a little lighter in the form of our weekly Mad Men feature, appearing every Thursday and updating readers on what some of the world’s more eccentric public figures have been up to – think Berlusconi, Gaddafi, Chavez.
Finally, I’m proud to note that some of our bigger, older siblings in the news industry have started to notice us. Sky News online flattered us with a comparison to Huffington Post, we featured as recommended reading in a recent Daily Candy weekend guide, and British journalism website Journalism.co.uk covered our official move out of the Beta stage and into prime time. Most recently, Columbia University School of Journalism featured Periscope on their homepage in an article describing us as a groundbreaking new news site.
So, with all of you now up to speed on our latest developments, it’s back to the grindstone as we continue our work of providing you with the best news perspectives, and the best online platform to have your say in the news.
Keep reading, keep contributing, and keep spreading the word,
Sincerely,
Thomas D. Gommes
